Boge's Story Through the eyes of a dog.
This is Boge’s Story and is told through the eyes of a dog named Boge…
I was born in a foreign country, but I didn’t know it was a foreign country…. until much later in life.
I got to come with the humans to these big parks with lots of other dogs. I got to run around with everyone watching and cheering!!! I didn’t know why but they let me stand in front of a camera and a big Ribbon and Trophy. Then I was called a CHAMPION!
On one trip we went to see our vet. I loved these humans, they gave me treats and lots of petting… and I loved all the attention. I had been there before but this time they gave me a shot and I went to sleep… when I woke up I heard the humans talking. They were saying ” Wow this dog has excellent hips and elbows, we will send these x-ray’s off for official certification”. I didn’t know what that meant but it sure sounded important.
I found myself back at the kennel and still having lots of fun, and yet more pictures. Then one day, one of my humans was crying… I didn’t know what to do for her…She kept hugging me and saying, ” you will be ok, your new humans will love you just as much as I do”.
In a few days I was taken on a long car ride… I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was put in a wooden crate and my last hugs from my humans. They were still crying but I didn’t know it was the last time I would see them…
I was put on an airplane… It seemed like it took forever for it to stop moving… I thought I was going to get sick. It went from Prague to Frankfort Germany, and I stayed the night there. Then back on a plane from Frankfort to Denver USA! I landed and finally on solid ground… that felt better!
All of a sudden, my crate was opened, and I saw 3 humans. They talked funny, I was a little nervous and I had to pee REALLY bad! I smelled this lady’s hand, and I could tell she really LOVED dogs! No doubts about it I could love her! There was a man and a boy with her. I had never really been close to a boy before, I had only seen them but never got to smell one!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH that’s all I heard since I didn’t understand English. I later found out those words meant “It’s ok boy, you’re a good boy”!
Well, I got to get out of that crate, and they lead me to a place to go PEE!!! Oh, I felt so much better!!!
I was put in a van with my new humans. It was the first day of summer 2019 and it was raining here. But I was so tired I went to sleep again.
When I woke up, we were at a Ranch a real Ranch! It had a lot of different smells and sounds… thing I had never seen, heard or smelled before. It was Amazing!!! I saw a cat, cows and chickens, even more dogs that looked just like me! More Rottweilers, I felt right at home with those dogs!
These new humans started hugging me and giving me treats… I was kind of picky, well very picky on what treats I would actually eat. If it wasn’t real meat, I would take it and set it on the ground like a gentleman, but I didn’t eat those things…
Soon I became very close to my new humans… and that boy was so good to me! He would play ball with me any time of day! I got to ride in the front seat of a pick-up truck! That was great, I never knew you could have such great views!!
I had learned the language that they were talking now so I knew what they wanted me to do. I was bi-lingual!
Time went on and I was used as a stud dog! I felt like the most important dog on the farm now! I was going to be the father of 2 litters and I was so excited and proud!
Then one day in January would change my life forever… I was playing chase with a couple of girl dogs when I ran under the camper. I didn’t realize my size was much bigger than those girl dogs and I ran right into the axle… oh how that hurt!!! I couldn’t move!! I was so scared I was going to DIE!!!
My human Mom came to my rescue! I was so happy to see her, but I couldn’t even wag my tail… I was definitely hurt! She made a sling and dragged me out from under the camper. They put me in the car and took me straight to the vet… But this was a small-town vet that didn’t have the specialty equipment to see what was wrong with me. I couldn’t tell them where it hurt. My Mom figured it out that it was in my neck.
So off we went to a hospital 150 miles away. They called it a VCA Animal Hospital with all the specialty equipment. They took me in on a big metal cart since I couldn’t even sit up let alone walk. They told my mom to fill out some paperwork, and they took me to the back… I did not like that one bit!!! I wanted my mom or Dad or my Boy with me at all times, I was so scared!!! So, I kind of acted angry and growled at them, but at least they went and got my mom to hold my hand… My Momma cried a lot!
I was given a shot and went to sleep again… They did this thing called an MRI, and it took a long time to finish. When I woke up, my human Momma was still with me, and oh how I loved her!
The Vet told her that I had smashed 2 vertebrae and caused nerve damage in my neck, there was nothing they could operate on to help me. I was going to have to heal and learn to walk on my own or have me put DOWN!! It made my Momma CRY so hard I thought she was going to pass out!
But my Momma said NO, we will not put him down, we will help him learn to walk again!!! So, they took me home and carried me in the house.
I was so tired these days and I didn’t feel good, but my Momma kept saying Boge you have to eat as she fed me with a spoon. She would get up every few hours all day and night to turn me over and clean up my messes… I was so embarrassed… But I didn’t have a choice, I had to go, and I couldn’t even stand up!!!
Weeks went by and I started to move my legs, I was getting some feeling back! My humans had been praying for this day…
WOW I knew I would live!!! I knew I would live and never give up trying.
While I was recovering, my 2 litters of puppies were born, 7 in the first litter and 12 in the second litter. I was so proud and so was my humans.
It seemed like it took forever but soon I was able to hold my head up and eat, and then I learned to lay like a dog rather than flat on my side…
Now it was time for the hard work. They said it was time to start putting some weight on my legs, but I was such a big dog it was hard for my mom and dad to hold me up… So, my dad being the thinker he is, he figured out how to build me a harness and use an old lift to pick me up! I went back to the VCA hospital and showed off my new walking devise Dad made for me. They were really impressed
I could put a little weight on my legs, and I thought I could run across the room!! But that would take a lot of work on my side. Mom, Dad and my Boy Kept helping me, taking me to the bathtub for relaxing time in the water… I really liked that, and I didn’t stink up the whole house!!
One night when no one was watching I decided I would get up a little bit to go pee… that way I wouldn’t get any on me. My Mom heard me and came running with a pee pad to put under me, again I was so embarrassed!
But it made her so happy she started crying again.
As time went on I was able to walk with a harness on and not the lift. I needed the help with the harness but could walk across the room!
Prayers were being answered!
I soon learned how to get up without help but needed help going down those 3 little steps out to go use the bathroom outside. Oh, how I hated those steps!
Mom and Dad decided we needed a better place to live, where we had NO steps at all! That’s when we moved to our new ranch,
The RIVERVIEW RANCH!!!
This place was amazing, a house with not steps for me and all the dogs. One day I sat up because I heard the cows mooing, and I knew something was wrong, I went to the door and Mom let me out, she got on the red horse she called a 4-wheeler. I ran out to help Mom and my Boy get the cows back in, and I made them cows go back to their pen. Mom was so proud of my herding ability, and I knew I needed to help because it was just Mom and my Boy. My Dad was out in the field with the big green tractor.
Well, one day Mom started taking pictures of me, she was so proud of the way I looked that she decided to make my face the LOGO for our new home.
***RIVERVIEW RANCH ROTTWEILERS***
Now days I play with baby calves, and I get to go outside a lot! I don’t have to have help anymore, I am still stiff a little in my shoulder and I kind of walk funny, but I am able to do it on my own!!! I am the spoiled house dog that sleeps next to my family.
I have had a few more litters.
Not too many people knew my story, so I wanted to let you all know how much I am LOVED and how much I LOVE my humans!!!
